DAY 4 /
MORNING TOUR : Chengdu Research Base of GiantPanda Breeding
Founded in 1987 with just six rescued giant pandas, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding has evolved from a small rescue center into a global leader in wildlife conservation. Its history is defined by a pivotal shift from simple captive management to advanced scientific research, successfully bringing the species back from the brink of extinction. Today, it stands as a world-class facility dedicated to protecting the "national treasure" of China.
The culture of the base is rooted in scientific rigor and educational outreach. It isn't just a zoo; it is a sanctuary where the staff prioritizes animal welfare and genetic diversity. The "Panda Culture" promoted here emphasizes the harmony between humans and nature, inviting visitors to become ambassadors for environmental stewardship through immersive experiences and conservation education.
Looking toward the future, the base is expanding its horizons with the Chengdu Panda International Tourism Resort. This evolution focuses on "rewilding" programs, preparing captive-born pandas for life in the mountainous wilderness. By integrating cutting-edge biotechnology with sustainable tourism, the base aims to ensure that future generations see pandas not just in sanctuaries, but thriving in their natural high-altitude habitats across Sichuan.

DAY 4 /
AFTERNOON TOUR : Sanxingdui National Archaeological Site Park: Echoes of an Ancient Kingdom
Discovered accidentally in 1929 and brought to global prominence by the massive 1986 excavations, Sanxingdui represents the lost Shu Kingdom, dating back over 3,000 years. The site upended traditional Chinese history by proving that civilization in the Yangtze River basin was as advanced and ancient as that of the Yellow River. The recent 2021 excavations of six additional sacrificial pits have unveiled even more sophisticated gold masks and silk residues, continuously reshaping our understanding of the Bronze Age.
The culture of Sanxingdui is defined by its "alien-like" aesthetic—colossal bronze masks with protruding eyes, towering bronze trees, and intricate gold foils. These artifacts suggest a society deeply rooted in shamanism and nature worship, distinct from the Central Plains cultures of the same era. It is a culture of mystery and artistic audacity, reflecting a highly organized civilization with complex spiritual rituals.
Sanxingdui is transitioning into a premier world-class archaeological park. Future developments include the integration of "Digital Sanxingdui," using AI and VR to recreate the ancient city for visitors. As it seeks UNESCO World Heritage status, the park is expanding its research facilities to become a global hub for Bronze Age studies, ensuring these ancient echoes resonate with a modern, international audience.
