We rented gravel bikes from Cyclequest to ride around the Chengdu area and then a second trip around Lake Erhai, Dali. The service and bikes were excellent. It made our trip thoroughly enjoyable. I loved cycling in China. Bikes can go everywhere. It’s not the same in Canadian cities!.

This tour was one of the highlights of my whole China trip. I fully recommend booking a full day tour (even if not cheap 😉) as the guide took me to spots that I would have never found on my own. The views were absolutely stunning and it was such an amazing feeling cruising through this incredible landscape with an e-bike. The guide was very nice and helpful, setting a perfect pace, and took many pictures. The quality of the bike was also great. All in all - I had a perfect day!

Dali Old Town and Erhai Lake sit at 1,970–2,050m, while climbs into the Cangshan range, Zhemo Mountain, and Niaodiao Shan rise to 2,800–3,250m+. At that altitude, air density is ~25–30% lower than at sea level, making sustained 10–15% gravel climbs exhausting on an acoustic bike. Our high-torque e-MTBs (Amflow PL/PX Carbon and Teewing Turbo Force with 105–150 N·m DJI Avinox motors and 700–800Wh batteries, or the lightweight Specialized Turbo Levo SL) let you climb 1,500–2,200m of vertical in a day without redlining your heart rate.
For the 130 km Erhai Lake Ecological Corridor and Bai village lanes around Xizhou and Zhoucheng, choose the Specialized Diverge E5 (flat-bar gravel bike) or the Aventon Ramblas hardtail e-MTB (up to 150 km Eco range, ideal for beating Dali's strong afternoon headwinds on the east shore). For Cangshan forest roads, alpine meadows, and rocky singletrack, choose our full-suspension e-MTBs (Amflow PL/PX, Teewing M1/M2S, Aventon Current, Turbo Levo SL) or our 160–200mm non-motorized enduro/DH fleet (Specialized Stumpjumper EVO, Quick Pro Force & Gravity).
We operate a direct dispatch and mobile mechanic service in Dali rather than a walk-in storefront. Enter your hotel name or meeting point in Dali Old Town, Caicun, or Xizhou when booking: our mechanic delivers the bike to you, sets saddle height and suspension sag (fork/shock air pressure or coil preload) to your weight, and collects the bike at the end of your rental.
Choose a Full 29er (Amflow PL Full 29er, Teewing M1, or Quick Pro Force) if your priority is maximum roll-over momentum across rocky alpine fire roads, high-altitude meadows, and root beds. Choose a Mullet 29" front / 27.5" rear setup (Amflow PL Mullet, Amflow PX, or Teewing M2S) if you want quicker rear-end agility through tight pine-forest switchbacks and extra tyre clearance on steep chutes.
At 2,000–3,200m in Yunnan, UV radiation is intense year-round and temperatures drop 8–12°C between the Erhai shoreline and Cangshan ridge passes. Always carry high-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, full-finger trail gloves, and a windproof/waterproof shell, and start full-loop Erhai rides clockwise in the morning before afternoon southerly winds pick up.
