One of the most iconic and accessible ways to experience Yangshuo’s limestone karst landscape is on two wheels. Running south from Yangshuo town toward Moon Hill, the Ten-Mile Gallery (Shili Gallery / 十里画廊) is a scenic corridor carved through towering peaks, pastoral rice fields, and traditional village hamlets.
Equipped with dedicated bike and e-bike lanes alongside the main roadway, this route offers relaxed cruising, gentle terrain, and postcard-perfect viewpoints at every bend.
Before you ride
Quick answers
Is Shili Gallery suitable for beginners?
Yes. The route is mostly flat with dedicated cycling lanes, making it ideal for families, casual riders, and first-time visitors.
Why choose an e-bike over a regular bicycle?
An e-bike provides effortless cruising in Yangshuo's warm climate, leaving you fresh for photo stops, local walks, and climbing explorations.
When is the best time to ride?
Morning between 08:00 and 10:30 offers cooler temperatures, softer lighting on the karst peaks, and significantly fewer tour coaches.
Highlights Along the Route
1. Totem Ancient Trail & Scenic Valley
As you leave the southern edge of Yangshuo town, the valley quickly narrows between steep limestone pinnacles. Keep an eye out for roadside paths leading down toward the quiet banks of the Yulong River tributary.
2. Gongnong Bridge (工农桥)
A classic intersection where the Yulong River meets the road. Watch bamboo rafts drift serenely beneath dramatic karst formations. This is one of the most photographed vantage points in Guangxi, especially during late afternoon golden hour.
3. Big Banyan Tree (大榕树)
A legendary 1,400-year-old banyan tree with an immense canopy spanning over 40 meters. Deeply woven into local folklore and famously featured in classic Chinese cinema (Liu Sanjie), it provides a shaded cultural pause along the ride.
4. Moon Hill (月亮山)
The natural crown jewel of the southern valley. Moon Hill features a massive crescent-shaped cave opening that visually shifts shape—from half moon to full moon—as you cycle along the highway below. For those with extra energy, a short hiking trail leads up to the summit arch for panoramic views across the karst sea.
Practical Rider Notes & Local Logistics
- Timing & Traffic: Shili Gallery enforces motor vehicle restrictions during peak daytime hours, prioritizing bicycles, e-bikes, and sightseeing shuttles. Ride early in the morning to beat the midday heat and traffic.
- Sun Protection & Hydration: Southern Guangxi sun can be intense. Carry water, sunglasses, and UV protection. Fresh coconut water and cut seasonal fruits are readily available from village vendors.
- Local Food Post-Ride: Conclude your loop with regional specialties near West Street or Fenglou village—try fresh beer fish (啤酒鱼), Guilin rice noodles (桂林米粉), and stuffed river snails (田螺酿).
